SUMMARY:Elevating Systems Science to Address Humanity’s Greatest Challenges (70th Annual Meeting of the International Society for the Systems Sciences)
DESCRIPTION:Title: Elevating Systems Science to Address Humanity’s Greatest Challenges\nAdvancing Real-World Applications; Converging on General Systems Science; Harnessing the Power of AI \nThe 70th Anniversary (Platinum) Conference of the International Society for the Systems Sciences (ISSS) marks a pivotal moment—not just for the society\, but for the world. \nBuilding on the 2025 conference’s emphasis on internal collaboration and unity within the systems sciences community\, the 2026 gathering sets its sights outward. It is time for systems science to engage more visibly and meaningfully with the world’s most influential institutions: the United Nations\, European Union\, World Bank\, OECD\, IMF\, African Union\, national governments\, major universities\, and civil society at large. \nToday’s global challenges (e.g.\, democratic erosion\, rising inequality\, climate crises\, pandemics\, and AI disruption) demand more than fragmented expertise or short-term solutions. They call for holistic\, integrated\, and adaptive thinking rooted in systems science. Yet while the need has never been greater\, the discipline itself faces fragmentation and marginalization. Almost all academic systems science departments have closed\, and many academics and practitioners remain scattered across fields\, departments\, and sectors. \nThis conference calls on systems thinkers (scientists\, practitioners\, educators\, and decision-makers) to close this gap. We must reinvigorate our field by aligning our diverse theories and methodologies into a coherent general systems science and demonstrating its practical value on the global stage. Systems science principles and practices offer powerful tools for addressing contemporary issues\, such as enhancing governance\, resolving conflicts\, promoting peace\, and reforming education\, healthcare\, financial institutions\, local authorities\, and many other areas. \nImportantly\, the 2026 conference will spotlight both the promise and peril of artificial intelligence. AI can amplify systemic insight\, support anticipatory governance\, and help coordinate solutions at scale. But without ethical and systemic oversight\, it also risks deepening inequities\, automating harm\, and eroding human agency. We must therefore explore how systems science can serve as a compass in navigating AI’s uncertain terrain. \nISSS’s Platinum Conference is a call to action to elevate systems science and cybernetics from a niche academic pursuit to a central pillar of planetary stewardship. We invite you to join us in shaping this transition\, spanning disciplines\, sectors\, institutions\, and generations. \nLet us move from theory to action\, and from siloed expertise to systemic solutions. \n

SUMMARY:2026 International Systems Dynamics Conference
DESCRIPTION:The International System Dynamics Conference (ISDC) brings together a global community of people passionate about System Dynamics and systems thinking. Now entering its 44th year\, the conference continues to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration among participants from business\, academia\, government\, and civil society. \nThe ISDC provides a platform for newcomers to learn from experts\, for experienced practitioners to share the latest advancements\, and for all participants to expand their professional networks across disciplines and regions. \nISDC2026 will be a hybrid event — join us virtually or in person in Delft\, The Netherlands. Whether presenting work\, learning new methods\, or engaging in discussions\, participants from more than 60 countries come together to explore the latest developments and applications of System Dynamics. \nConference Dates:  July 20-24\, 2026Venue: TU Delft\, Aula Conference Center \nMore information available here: International System Dynamics Conference

SUMMARY:Conversational Confluences\, American Society for Cybernetics Conference 2026
DESCRIPTION:Conversational Confluences\, to be held in Ouro Preto\, Brazil\, from August 3–7\, 2026. \nFounded in 1964\, the ASC has long been a home for those exploring cybernetics as conversation — a way of understanding systems\, relations\, and acts of participation in the world. Each ASC conference offers a space for shared inquiry and experimentation\, where participants co-create formats for learning\, reflection\, and doing together. \nFor ASC 2026\, we turn our attention to the notion of confluence: how distinct perspectives can come together without losing their difference\, generating new ways of thinking and acting. We invite proposals for tracks that cultivate such encounters — spaces where ideas\, practices\, and disciplines meet\, merge\, and transform. \n  \nConversational Confluences\nConfluence\, as articulated by Brazilian thinker and activist Nego Bispo\, provides a framework for reflecting on how diverse worldviews\, practices\, and epistemologies can coexist without losing their distinct identities. Rather than assimilation or homogenization\, confluence is about mutual amplification\, where differences are not obstacles but sources of strength. Like rivers merging to become stronger\, this coming together creates new\, more resilient possibilities of coexistence. Rooted in decolonial and counter-hegemonic struggles\, the concept invites us to imagine collaborations that foster plurality and the emergence of new systems of living and knowing. \nBuilding on this understanding\, the ASC 2026 meeting seeks to explore how cybernetics can participate in such confluences — through encounters and experiments that bring it into dialogue with art\, science design\, technology\, ecology\, and situated knowledge. \nConference Structure\nDates: August 3–7\, 2026 \nLocation: Ouro Preto\, Brazil \nLanguages: English and Portuguese (simultaneous translation may be available\, but is not guaranteed for every session) \nThe five-day event will be structured as follows: \nAfternoons (Days 1–4): parallel track sessions designed and facilitated by proposers. \nMornings: shared sessions for all participants — extended breakfasts\, thematic dialogues\, and collective reflections — where ideas and experiences from the tracks can mingle and resonate. \nDay 5: collective synthesis and future-oriented conversations. \nTrack proponents will be invited to share insights and reflections from their sessions in these morning gatherings\, fostering coherence and conversation across the confluence. \n  \nFor more information see the conference website: https://asc-cybernetics.org/2026 \n
